 Yusuke-Yusuke is the main character of the show, he's may only be in Jr. High, but due to his past as well as his born ability to fight, he can take down almost anyone in his path. Less than 1 minute into the first episode, Yusuke get's whacked by a car and dies. After several trials and a resurrection, Yusuke is put to work by the Spirit World as it's detective. -First seen in Episode 1 --AGE: 14 Iwamoto-Iwamoto is one of the bad teachers at Yusuke's Jr. High, he's always out to get Yusuke, and once Yusuke's out of the way, he goes after Kuwabara. -First seen in Episode 1 Akashi-Akashi is yet another teacher who's out to get Yusuke, after Yusuke's death, he threatens to take one of Kuwabara's friends jobs away if they fight even once for a whole week or get any lower than a 50 on a test. This teacher gets what he had coming to him when Mr. Takenaka finds out that he changed the score on Kuwabara's test. -First seen in Episode 1 Mr. Takenaka-Mr. Takenaka is the principal of Yusuke's school, he tries to get Yusuke to go to school and actually wants to help Yusuke, unlike the other teachers. -First seen in Episode 1 Atsuko-Atsuko is Yusuke's mom, she has terrible drinking habits and causes a lot of problems for Yusuke in the beginning of the series. She's not very responsible but does care for Yusuke, even though she doesn't really show it. -First seen in Episode 1 --AGE: Mid 30's Gouki-Gouki is a hard headed demon who lives by eating souls. He allies with Hiei and Kurama in the beginning of the series to steal the 3 Artifacts of Darkness. This is the first demon that Yusuke fights, Gouki may have had Yusuke beat in almost all skills, but Yusuke outsmarts him in the end and elimantes him. -First seen in Episode 6 Hiei-Hiei is a violent demon who gets along with very few people. Hiei is not only the second shortest character in the show as well as the second strongest throughout most of the series. What truly makes Hiei such a powerful character is the fact that he trains to the point where it could kill him, he masters techniques that could kill him as he executes them. Eventually Hiei even goes so far as to master the legendary Dragon of the Darkness Flame. Hiei allies with Kurama early in the show and usually sticks around with him, him and Yusuke both love to fight, so they spar every once in a while, and those fights never dissapoint. Though he may act though all the time, there is a mysterious side to Hiei related to his past, and why he got the Jigan Eye implanted into his forehead. -First seen in Episode 6 Kurama-Kurama is the reborn, human version of Yoko Kurama, though not as strong, his knowledge and fighting skill prove him to be a worthy opponent. Early in the series, Kurama works alongside Hiei and Gouki to steal the 3 artifacts of darkness. Kurama joined them so he could use the Forlorn Hope to heal his mother, they wanted him to help because of his experience as a bandit and because Hiei didn't want Kurama to be against him. Kurama quickly befriends Yusuke and is the first person to actually allie with him. -First seen in Episode 6 Yoko Kurama-The Legendary Bandit Yoko as he is also known, the Spirit Fox who was feared by many demons. Yoko disspeared after a burglary, he was thought to have been killed, but he hid himself inside a human woman as a baby and was reborn as Kurama. Yoko was not seen for 15 years, when Kurama inhaled the smoke from the Idun Box and regressed back to his previous self. -First seen in Episode 46 Kuwabara-Kuwabara is Yusuke's rival, he picks fights with Yusuke every day and loses every time. Their rivalry is a sort of friendship, and through out the show they actually become pretty good friends. They still beat each other up though. -First seen in Episode 1 --AGE: 14 Keiko/Kayko-Keiko is Yusuke's Childhood friend, throughout the series they become closer together. Keiko is usually Yusuke's number 1 concern and usually that is used against him in battle. She learns of his "job" shortly before the Dark Tournament begins. -First seen in Episode 1 --AGE: 14 Jyaki-A small low class Demond, Jyaki goes and takes over a host's body, using it to do evil deeds. Jyaki is the first criminal Yusuke catches. -First seen in Episode 5 Botan-Botan is the person who brings souls over the river stix, she's also known as the Grim Reaper, though she doesn't look it. She rides on a boat paddle and goes between Spirit World and the Living World a lot. Botan also works as Yusuke's guide for his Spirit Detective work, she tells him of all the cases and shows him certian tools that could help him through the case. -First seen in Episode 1 Yukina-Yukina is Hiei's sister as well as a ice demon, her tears turn into valuable Hiruiseki Stones. These stones are worth a lot of money on the black market so Gonzou Tarukane went and kidnapped her for his own profit. Yukina is a very gentle person and loves animals, her love for animals is what gets her to cry the Hiruiseki Stones, she was able to put up with all the torture but the death of a bird was enough. -First seen in Episode 22 Puu-Puu is Yusuke's spirit beast and reflects Yusuke's inner self, it was hatched from the Spirit Egg given to Yusuke to regain his life. Puu plays a large role in the dark tournament series. Basically, Puu is Yusuke, however Yusuke feels, Puu does too. -First seen in Episode 43 Toguro-Toguro was once a good friend of Genkai, they both trained until they were able to take out even some of the strongest of demons, they entered the dark tournament and when they won Toguro used his wish to become a Demon. Toguro eventually got around to leading the "Aparition gang" as well as capturing and torchering demons. -First seen in Episode 22 Elder Toguro-The Elder of the Toguro brothers is the small one that clings onto the bigger one's shoulder. Strength wise the elder Toguro isn't that powerful, his abilities make him a formitable opponent though. This Toguro can change his body into any shape, move his organs around his body, as well as reform/regrow any part of his body, this makes him near impossible to kill. -First seen in Episode 22 Genkai-Genkai is an old friend of Koenma's and a well known Physic. Her fighting ablility and spirit energy are of unimaginable levels compared to most humans. Though strong, Genkai is old and passes her abilities and knowledge on to Yusuke. -First seen in Episode 9 OgreBui- -First seen in Episode 43 Koto-Koto is the referee of the dark tournaments first few rounds and the announcer in the semi finals and final round. Koto is usually a comical character who is very serious about her job. There was only one instance where Koto abandoned the ring, and that was to avoid the Dragon of the Darkness Flame. -First seen in Episode 27 Juri-Juri is the announcer for the Semi-Finals and the Finals of the Dark Tournament. She's not as dedicated to the job as Koto is, but tries to be the best announcer possible. Near the end she starts to fall apart, but so is everything else in the arena, so it's understandable. -First seen in Episode 44 Rinku-Rinku is a fighter for team Rokuyukai. Rinku ends up facing Kuwabara in the first round of the Dark Tournament. Rinku is a skilled fighter, his agility and speed are quite impressive, but that doens't even compete with his spirit energy technique. Rinku's speciality is sending his spirit energy into objects and controlling them, he uses this most with his Serpent Yo Yo's. Rinku and Kuwabara end up being fairly equal in their fight, but Rinku eventually gets the win with a ring out. -First seen in Episode 27 Zeru-Due to the way team Rokuyukai picked the order of fighting, Zeru is made the leader for the battle, even though he is not the strongest nor the actual leader of the team. Zeru fights in the third round of the Dark Tournament against Hiei, both of which can control fire. Not only does Zeru fight in the first round, he is also the first victom of Hiei's Dragon of the Darkness Flame. -First seen in Episode 27 Koenma-Koenma is the son of King Yemma, and Ruler of Spirit World. He may look like a toddler but he is very old and wise, and doesn't like being called a toddler either. Koenma is the reason Yusuke gets his life back and plays a very large role in the show. -First seen in Episode 2 Shizuru-Shizuru is Kuwabara's older sister, she has no spirit powers but her spirit awarness is just as amazing as Kuwabara's. Then again, even if she lacks spirit powers and Kuwabara does, she still has the intelligence that Kuwabara doesn't. -First appears in Episode 22 Gondawara-A gambler is pretty much all Gondawara is, he stakes all of his fortune on team Rokuyukai beating Urameshi in the first round. In the end of the first round, he loses it all. Roto-Roto's fighting technique is poor, but that's not what he relies on. Roto wages his victories on his ability of deception and trickery. Through threats he can get his opponents to stand still while he violently pummels them until he finally decides to finish them. This technique worked well for him,that is, until he fought Kurama. -First seen in Episode 28 Chu-Chu is the leader of Team Rokuyukai and by far the strongest. A master of Drunken Fighting, the more he drinks, the stronger he gets. Chu ends up being an even match for Yusuke up until the very end. -First seen in Episode 30 Karasu-First seen in Episode 32 Minotaur-A member of the unknown team first defeated by Dr. Ichigaki team, the Minutaur rushes in to fight even after the battle is officially over. He gets brutally killed by three of the fighters of Dr. Ichigaki's team. -First seen in Episode 33 Dr. Ichigaki-Dr. Ichigaki is an evil scientist demon, he researches human biology and learns how to control it through a device called the Varruki. He uses this device to controll Mitamura's students. -First seen in Episode 33 Rugby (Ragubi)-Rugby is the first member of the Spirit Warriors team that we see, he trys to kill Yusuke during time between their fights but is stopped by Topaz. Rugby named himself after the sport because it's the closest humans have to recreational pain. -First seen in Episode 33 Topaz (Ogyoku)-Topaz is the leader of the Spirit Warriors team, he's the most powerful of the team and provides most if not all of the aura they show before facing off against Toguro. Topaz feels that he is destined to destroy Yusuke, until Toguro tells him who Yusuke's fate truly belongs to. -First seen in Episode 33 Dosukoi-Dosukoi is a Sumo Wrestler with control over his spirit energy, he's also about 4 times the size of a regular Sumo Wrestler, and a demon to boot. Dosukoi is what Sumo Wrestler's yell as they attack, that's pretty much where the name came from. -First seen in Episode 33 Gorilla (Gorira)-Well, Gorilla looks like a Gorilla, plain and Simple. He wields a mallet as a weapon but we don't get to see it in use. -First seen in Episode 33 Babaki-Babaki looks like a fish, he dies too fast for anything to be judged about him. All we know is that he looks like a fish with a mohawk. -First seen in Episode 33 Gagaki-Gagaki resembles a large human, excluding the large horn sticking out of his head. Like Babaki, he dies before much can be learned about him. -First seen in Episode 33 Mitamura-The master of Yen, Ryo, and Kai. He was given a disease by Dr. Ichigaki so his pupil's would fall into his trap to controll them. Mitamura is rescued by Hiei and Kurama in the end and healed by a quickly made remedy, made by Kurama. -First seen in Episode 34 Ryo-Ryo is the elder of the three students tricked by Dr. Ichigaki. His attack is last in their formation and is basically an invisible javalin. -First seen in Episode 34 Yen-Yen is the younger, red headed fighter tricked by Dr. Ichigaki. His attack is first in the sequence and is made up of 6 energy rings, two of which are real. -First seen in Episode 34 Kai-Kai is the middle aged fighter tricked by Dr. Ichigaki. His attack is the second attack in the sequence, it's called grisley claw but is actually more like an energy bomb. -First seen in Episode 34 Jin, The Wind Master-Jin is the strongest fighter of Team Masho, he is known as "Jin, The Wind Master". Jin's control over wind is amazing, he can use it for offensive and defensive techniques and even renders Yusuke's Sprit Gun useless. Jin is a very happy person, he cracks jokes and laughs with his opponents through out the battle. -First seen in Episode 37 Ruka the Enchantress-Ruka specialises in defensive use of spirit energy, mainly a force field. Ruka pretends to be a nurse for the medical tent in order to capture Hiei and the Masked Fighter during team Urameshi's fight against team Masho. Ruka's forcefield is defeated in the end, her being a nurse is somewhat true, the energy from the forcefield helped speed up the healing process for the Hiei's arm and the Masked Fighter. -First seen in Episode 37 Gama, The Master of Disguise (Japanese: Bodypaint-Bearer Gama)-Gama uses Makeup to control his power and his enemies, he uses makeup made of his own blood to increase his strength. Then uses that same makeup to seal his opponents energy and restrict their movement. -First seen in Episode 37 Touya, The Master of Ice (Japanese: Toya, The Hexed Ice-User)-Touya is the second fighter of Team Masho, he is a shinobi who mastered the usage of Ice. He's mastered it to the point where he can shoot several shards of it at his opponents or even form a sword of ice over his hand. Touya is truly a master of ice. -First seen in Episode 37 Bakken (Japanese: Mashotsukai Team Bakken)-Bakken is the Master of Mist, it's pretty much his only trick too. With just his sweat he can cover a large area with mist, then he simply sends a blast of wind through the mist to distract his opponent. When they dodge the blast, he comes up and hits them. -First seen in Episode 38 Butajiri-The owner of Team Masho, Butajiri uses his money to buy over the comittee and weigh the odds against team Urameshi. Butajiri is the one behind the medical tent scheme as well as ruling Yusuke unfit to fight the final battle. His cheating ends up making Toguro mad and he doesn't live to see the end of his teams fight. -First seen in Episode 37 Risho-Risho is the leader of Team Masho, but not the strongest. Unlike the rest of his set, he cares more about winning than his honor, and therefore promotes Butajiri's cheating and "influence" on the comittee. As a Master of Earth, Risho can form an armor that makes him harder to hit and makes his punches and kicks hit harder. -First seen in Episode 41 Ticket Man-This demon is seen only once, he doesn't let Shizuru, Botan, Yukina, or Kayko back into the tournament. He made his mistake when he started hitting on Kayko though, I'll just say that's the last time we see the Ticket Man. -First seen in Episode 42 The Scalper-This guy plays a small role during the Dark Tournament saga, he goes around selling tickets for high prices. Later on he ends up helping Shizuru get into the Semi-Finals, well, his tickets help at least. -First seen in Episode ?? Kuro Momotaro-Kuro Momotaro is a skilled Fighter, but his true power comes from the items given to him by Suzuka. Using the steaming sphears, Kuro Momotaro can make himself invincible against his opponents attacks, as long as he survives the first exposure to them. Each steaming sphear gives Kuro Momotaro a certian type of armor. -First seen in Episode 43 Makintaro-Makintaro isn't a very skilled fighter, his axe blade fist attack is pretty much all he has. His speed and reaction time are very low compared to fighters on his team. He get's slaughtered by Hiei very quickly. -First seen in Episode 43 Uraurashima-Best suited for fighting against Kurama, Uraurashima is a fisherman who uses his fishing rod for fighting instead of fishing. His other weapon of choice is the Idun Box, which he uses to turn fighters to a younger age. -First seen in Episode 43 Shishiwakamaru- -First seen in Episode 43 Onji- - First seen in Episode 43 Sayaka-Sayaka is one of Koenma's special investigators. She is first seen investigating Yusuke to see if his closest friends really want him back. Despite her appearance, Saiyaka is actually quite old. -First seen in Episode 4 Rando-Rando is a human hunter, he hunts down physics and steals their techniques, he steals 100 before he is stopped. Every technique he steals, he adjusts and makes his own form of it. During the Genkai Tournament he disguises himself as Shorin. --True form first seen in episode 11 Baldok-This so called "Lethal Man-Bat" lives in the middle of the Dark Forest. His main fighting style revolves around his speed and flying ability, as a fighter he is actually quite weak. Yusuke makes short work of him by using the exprience he gained from fighting Hiei, it probably didn't help that he kept talking on and on in his strange 3rd person form of talking either. -First seen in episode 9 Musashi-Musashi is a fourth degree black belt under Kendo of the Shibattou school. -First seen in episode 9 Shorin-Shorin is a physic who searches the world in search for the perfect instructor, he ends up at the Genkai Tournament during this search. -First seen in Episode 8 Kibano-Kibano is a master of every style of Martial Arts, he uses a helmet of his own making to block out all senses so he can focus more on his spirit awareness. -First seen in Episode 8 Chinpoh-Chinpoh is a wanderer who fights in the Genkai Tournament. -First seen in Episode 9 Kazemaru-Kazemaru is a ninja who works as a bodyguard for government officials. He has been trained in the Ninjitzu art of stealth and therefore has a large advantage when fighting in the dark. Kazemaru has also mastered a technique similar to the spirit gun, instead of using one fighter, he channels the energy through his paln. -First seen in Episode 8
-Kuroda is a hitman, due to his profession, he doesn't hold back when it comes down to a life or death fight.-First seen in Episode 9 Makai Insects-The Makai insects enter a human's body and take it over. They are controlled by the Makai Whistle and do whatever is commanded by he who possesses the whistle. -First seen in Episode 14 Genbu-Genbu is the first we see of the Four Saint Beasts, he is the weakest the four. Genbu is a stone beast who can absorb himself into the stone walls of the castle, he can also break himself apart as an attack and rebuild himself easily. -First seen in Episode 15 Byakko-The White Tiger is what he is known as, he attacks literally using his hair and his roar. He is not an opponent to be taken lightly. He is the second strongest of the Four Saint Beasts but definately the hardest to kill. -First seen in Episode 16 Seiryu-Seiryu is known as the Blue Dragon. Seiryu is an ice master, not too powerful of one but still a force to be reconed with. His betrayal of Byakko seals his fate by bothering Hiei. -First seen in Episode 18 Murugu-Murugu is Suzaku's annoying bird, she leaves the castle and find information for him. She also helps from time to time with what she can. -First seen in Episode 18 Suzaku-Suzaku is the leader of the Four Saint Beasts, he was the mastermind behind the Makai insects invasion of earth. Suzaku is a very skilled Demon and by far the strongest of the beasts of Maze Castle. -First seen in Episode 19 Gonzou Tarukane-Gonzou is the man who kidnapped Yukina and forced her to cry so he could sell the stones produced from her tears. He made a fortune and a reputation for himself off of the black market. -First seen in Episode 22 |
