What Rurouni Kenshin is About
Ten years before the start of the series, a war waged on between Samurai called the Meiji Revolution. The end of this war would decide the future government. During the last four years of the revolution there was one samurai that stood out, one who was so powerful that his name was feared by all, this man was Hitokiri Battousai (Battousai the Manslayer). In end end of the revolution, the Battousai dissapeared without a trace. Ten years after the Revotion in the tenth year of the Meiji Restoration, a wanderer by the name of Kenshin Himura (Battousai) arrived in Tokyo. Kenshin saved the life of an 18 year old girl named Kaoru, the assistant master of the Kamiya Kasshin dojo. From then on Kenshin lived Kaoru in the dojo, with a few interuptions from people who want to take the life of the Legendary Battousai. During this time Kenshin makes several new friends and a few more people come to live at the Dojo.

- Suntetsu - A small handheld dagger made to be consealed.
- Bakumatsu - The closing days of the Tokugawa Regime.
- Boshin War - The civil war between the Meiji govenrment and the old feudal government, the Tokugawa Bakukufu.
- Edo - The Capital City of the Tokugawa Bakufu. Later, during the Meiji Restoration, named Tokyo.
- Meiji Restoration - Between 1853 and 1968, after the fall of the Tokugawa Bakukufu. Rurouni Kenshin starts 11 years into the Meiji Restoration.
