Bios HenriettaLeft for dead after the brutal murder of her family, Henrietta is the newest addition to the Agency as the series opens. Her struggle is the most developed of all the girls as she adjusts to her new life. Henrietta’s favorite activity is spending time with her handler, Jose. Unlike the other fratello, Jose cares for his charge like a protective brother. His interest and concern are obvious. As with Henrietta, Jose’s struggle to find the healthiest balance for them both is given detailed attention.
RicoBorn with severe birth defects confining her to a hospital, Rico’s parents signed her over to the Agency. She loves her new body and her new life, and looks at each new day as a blessing. Rico maintains a sunny disposition. Her handler Jean is brother to Jose, and the two could now be more dissimilar. Jean views his charge as a tool of the trade and keeps her on heavy doses of conditioning. Cold and impersonal, his treatment of Rico is often a point of contention between the brothers.
TrielaTriela’s origins and how she came to be with the Agency remain a mystery. Extremely pragmatic with just a hint of rebellion, Triela serves as a mentor for the other girls. Of them all, she retains the most realistic outlook on their situation at the Agency. Her handler, Hilshire, prefers a hands-off approach and, like Jose, he dislikes the heavy use of conditioning. This fratello most resembles the siblings after which they are named in that, although they work toward a common goal, they have trouble relating to each other.
ClaesClaes is another one of whose origins remain undefined. Without a handler, she is confined to the Agency, unable to participate in the missions. Wearing the glasses from her life before the implants, a visual reminder of a promise she made, Claes is an extremely gentle girl with great patience. Before his untimely demise, her handler, Raballo, spent time with Claes outside of the Agency, showing her a normal life. He was unable to deal with what had been done to the girls, and of what was expected of both him and his charge.
